| What is Film Day?
Film Day is a creative team building event that is fun and highly motivational.
TEAM BUILDING that everyone in your company can participate in and enjoy .
A unique MOTIVATIONAL EXPERIENCE exciting, creative and imaginative .
An UNFORGETTABLE experience that provides reward and recognition for your team .
Put simply, we take your group away to a hotel for the day where they have to write, direct and star in their very own five-minute movie. At the end of the day we hold an 'Oscars' where the teams' efforts are rewarded for their contribution to cinematic history.
Options include the 'Creative' version (where the teams devise their own original plotlines and scripts based on a movie genre), the Mini Film Day (where we supply the script or script structure and the teams improvise the dialogue), and the Business Focus version where the objective is to make a TV commercial or corporate video. Two special version include the Movie Business where, similar to a business simulation, each film unit must function as a working company with the objective to turn in a profit on their movie. Stand by Studio is very different - the teams must broadcast a live show under the pressure and deadlines of live TV in a fully equipped television studio.
How does Film Day work?
A Typical 'Creative' Film Day - The Morning
Your group arrives at a suitable hotel for the day where they will be divided into 'film units' in which every member takes on a vital role in the creation of their very own five minute movie.
Their first job is to allocate these roles - the teams themselves choose who will be director, producer, scriptwriter, actors and so on. Each unit must produce their film using their own creativity and resourcefulness - with a little help from us.
Armed with a suitable movie genre such as a gothic horror or romantic comedy, a cheesy film title and the name of a leading character, each team then sets about devising an original story idea for their film which they present in the style of a movie pitch - ‘Curse of the Teenage Vampire Nuns meets Sleepless in Seattle’.
Into Production
Next comes the master classes in scriptwriting, directing, camerawork and art direction run by our team of industry experts. Then your teams enthusiastically set to work – the scriptwriters fleshing out their storyline and developing the dialogue, the location managers tracking down set ups for each scene, art directors finding or making the props and costumes, directors and actors rehearsing the action and by lunchtime all teams are ready to begin filming.
The Afternoon
After lunch and a short refresher in film unit protocol the shooting begins in earnest - the film units rush off to their first locations and soon the cameras are rolling.
Around 5.00pm all films are 'in the can' and the directors and producers get busy with our editors in the cutting room to assemble and polish their potential masterpieces. Meanwhile the rest of the team apply themselves to creating a catchy slogan and publicity poster to promote their movies. After a short de-briefing with some hilarious quotes from the day's events the teams take well-earned time out for some R&R – perhaps a drink or two before the gala dinner.
"I'd like to thank...
“After dinner - the moment we've all been waiting for - yes, it's The Oscars. We screen all the completed films plus some hilarious out-takes from the day. Then the excitement intensifies as we move on to the awards. Categories include Best Screenplay, Best Credits, Most Unusual Sound Effect, Best Director, culminating in the prestigious award for 'Best Film'. We ensure that everyone’s efforts are recognised and rewarded. So it's congratulations all round and the inevitable (and usually interminable) acceptance speeches. The excitement and sense of achievement of the winning teams just has to be seen to be believed.
Where can I hold my Film Day?
Anywhere in Europe (but usually the UK) that is convenient for you - a hotel or similar venue of your choice in the location of your choice. Normally clients book the hotels directly but we can help with venue suggestions if required. A good venue will have spacious grounds so the teams can film outdoors, with ideally exclusive use of some areas. The event needs one large room to hold the whole group for briefing and the gala dinner plus a dedicated lockable room to hold the equipment and for editing. A couple of breakout rooms are always useful as well.
How many in should be a team?
Minimum 6-8, maximum 15. Average of 10-12 mean that everyone gets a decent role within each team.
I have a small team, can you do anything for me?
Yes, we have lots of options for small teams such as the Mini Film Day which can be run in an afternoon and is suitable for teams as small as 6-8. We can also devise a bespoke event for you to meet the objectives of the day.
What do you supply with a Film Day?
All the necessary equipment: digital camera kit - 1 per team, 1 edit suite per two teams. Some props and costumes appropriate to the film genres, makeup kit, clapperboards, logging sheets and all consumables in the production kits, three or more 'experts' to run the masterclasses, the Oscars and obviously we plan and organise the day for you.
Do you give us any feedback on how the teams behave and what they achieve?
If required, we provide you with an informal de-briefing on team dynamics when the filming is completed - around 5.00pm. A more formal report can be provided from one of our professional HR facilitators or Business Psychologist at additional cost.
How much will it cost?
The Film Day package is very flexible and can be adapted to meet even tight training budgets. We prefer to quote for individual requirements but as a guide prices start at around £1000 for an average sized team.
